Oh la Loire

I shouldn't drink at lunchtime. Felt rubbish all yesterday afternoon. Coq au vin out of a can, bottle of peach tea, shower and bed.
We knew that today would be tough, we were right.
Up at 6.35 and away by 8.20, trying to get some of the climbing out of the way before the heat hits.
Managed to get on some off road which was getting a bit steep so we bailed out, me literally as I hit some soft stuff and lost the bike. Bit scuffed but ok.
Back on the road the climb seemed to go on forever.
Reached Craponne where we stopped for a coffee and to ring about the air bed.
Noticed we were surrounded by people in cowboy hats and American flags. A country music festival starts tonight. We resisted the temptation and pushed on.
We reached our destination of Retournac and found the site which was uninspiring.
We sat for a bit, drank our beers ate some cheese, then packed up and moved on.
The next site didn't exist on the ground so we had to push on.
So we're now at Vorey and back on the banks of the Loire after 78 Kms and 800m of climbing and off our original route.
Storms are forecast tomorrow so might sit it out here for a bit.

About to have a communal dinner at the bar, eek!

  1. I think they cocked up the road race today. They seemed to do all the work in the peloton and seemed in control but left themselves with too much to do. It didn't help that Wiggins and others didn't want to knacker themselves for the racing later in the week. BBC commentary was dreadful. They were in the Mall and weren't getting info fed to them - they had trouble making out who was who (so do I!)They thought Greipel was 4th - he was 26th.
Great Opening Ceremony - worth looking at the highlights on BBC site. Even Wendy watched it to the end.
Hope the weather is being kind to you.Slow down - you'll be there before us at this rate.

    1. Oh that's a shame about Cav. We managed to watch the last stage of the tour and I thought he could do it in London.
Saw the reviews of the opening ceremony and it sounded good. No tv here but I used the wifi to set the sky box, so hopefully we can see it when we get home.
We'll probably take a few more breaks now although the cheaper campsites are getting harder to find.
